Chuckanut Pictures

Here are some new and additional pictures that go along with the Highway Journal post titled: Chuckanut. If you haven’t read the story yet just “click” back over to Highway Journal and read about our adventures along the Chuckanut and surrounding area. Enjoy the journey.

The picture above and the three below were taken on St Hwy 11, (Chuckanut) which passes along the shoreline of Bellingham Bay and Samish Bay. The Northern section of the Chuckanut Hwy is very picturesque with pull-offs to enjoy the views.

South from the Chuckanut heading out onto Whidbey Island you crossed over the Deception Pass Bridge. Below are a couple of pictures from the bridge of the surrounding area. The views are beautiful.

Looking East towards Skagit Bay from one of the advantage points along the Bridge.
Looking West out to the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

Whidbey Island is long and narrow which is home to Whidbey Island Navel Air Station. There is a ferry terminal for the Port Townsend / Coupeville Ferry on the island which crosses Northern Puget Sound to and from the Olympic Peninsula to Whidbey Island and the Northern I-5 corridor. Midway on the island is the community of Coupeville. I like to think of it as the “Mayberry” of the Pacific Northwest….Of course, Barney isn’t there with his one bullet in his shirt pocket but there is “Ship’s Captain” that I’ve seen in different locations in the town you can take your picture with. Below are several pictures of Coupeville.

The Coupeville pier. There’s a souvenir shop and other amenities at the end of the dock.
Arrrr….. come take your picture with the “Ship’s Captain”
Some of the shoreline of Coupeville (the tide is out)…These are the back of the buildings and businesses along main street.

The following pictures are of the ferry crossing from Coupeville to Port Townsend. It’s about a 30 minute boat ride.

Ferry arrival and getting ready to drive aboard.
Taking off from the dock.
On the deck of the ferry enjoying the sunshine.
The crossing. Looking Northwest out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Arriving at Port Townsend.
