Shotgun Annie’s Saloon Tavern Bar

The Shotgun Annie’s Saloon Tavern Bar, which was known as the Frenchman Bar, is located along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in the little community of Wolf Creek which is off of I-15, North of Helena, beside the Missouri River. We actually stopped here for a late afternoon lunch in the summer of 2004 after driving south out of Glacier National Park. The food was great and the building and atmosphere had lots of charm. Googling “Wolf Creek Bar” I found that this establishment was still open, remodeled, renamed, but the pictures of the food looked as good as I remember. I’m sure the “charm” of the building I referenced to above has been repaired by now, but when we were there, going to the men’s restroom and using the urinal, one could look down and see the ground through the floor. Apparently over the years the fellows who use the facilities, I’m guessing the late night drinking crowd, would miss their mark, which in turn rotted away the floor giving one the view of the ground below. One of the other things I remember about the “fun” of the place was a large crock with chicken fencing covering and secured to the top of the jar. There was a sign placed on the side…. “Beware Baby Rattler”….implying there was a rattle snake inside. Of course when you looked into the container there was a “baby rattle” at the bottom. Was it a good STOP along the highway….You bet it was. Enjoy the Journey.
