Great Platte River Road Archway Monument….
Traveling on Interstate 80, a few miles east of Kearney, Nebraska, you come up on, and pass under the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument. I know the 1st time we saw the Archway, and passed under it, we questioned what the heck was that. Of course, we researched what it was and we found that the Monument opened in 2000 and is a showcase to the epic adventures of the explorers/travelers, from the mid 1800’s through today, who followed the Great Platte River Road. Just a side note: If you ever read or saw the TV movie Centennial, the story line takes place around the explorers and settlers who explored and followed the Platte River, and those who settled the Platte River valley.
Of course, the short of this is that we’ve driven under the Great Platte River Archway Monument several times and we have never stopped. It’s Places Ya Just Pointed At. But, it has been put on our checklist to visit in the future.
Enjoy the Journey
